Lakshmi Niwas actress Akshita Mudgal on shooting with little girl Kessar: “After the shot, I ran to say sorry"
Family drama Lakshmi Niwas has been striking a chord with viewers through its heartfelt, relatable story that reflects the emotional realities of India’s middle-class joint families. With its roots in dreams, responsibilities, and relationships, the show embodies the power of sticking together and holding on to hope and dreams as families work toward their “apna ghar.”The story revolves around Lakshmi and Srinivas, who live for 35 years in a rented place and have two aspirations that are very dear to their hearts, owning a home and having their children settle down happily. However, when they take tiny steps to make these aspirations a reality, life throws some unexpected hurdles at them and tests their relationship and faith in family values.

Adding to the emotional quotient of this show is the performance of actress Akshita Mudgal, who portrays the role of Lakshmi and Srinivas’s elder daughter, i.e., Radhika. While the character’s story is founded within family values and sacrifices, Mudgal, too, has struck a special chord with the youngest member of the show, which includes child artist Kessar Kansara, playing the role of Niya. The scenes featuring these two bring out the motherly role, creating the most emotional moments.
Speaking about her bond with Kessar, Akshita Mudgal shared, “It’s been so much fun shooting with Kessar. She’s such a sweet kid, and honestly, the bond feels very natural. Recently, for a scene, her mother told me to get upset with her, and I felt so bad because whatever I say, good or strict, it impacts her the most. In the scene, I had to scold her, and she immediately started crying. We recorded the shot, and right after that, I ran to her to pacify her, to say sorry, and make her feel okay again. Even later, I kept checking on her.”She added, “She’s the youngest on set, so she’s everyone’s jaan. And for me, I feel every woman has that motherly instinct somewhere within her. I’m really happy that I’m getting a chance to live that motherhood on screen. Nia is not actually Radhika’s daughter in the story, but in many ways, she is. When she’s with me on set, she naturally becomes my responsibility. Even if her mother is around, she depends on me a lot, and I think those feelings come through naturally on screen too. With its emotionally rooted storytelling and a strong ensemble cast featuring Manasi Joshi Roy, Rajendra Chawla, Gashmeer Mahajani and Akshita Mudgal, Lakshmi Niwas promises a warm portrayal of family bonds, sacrifices, and the dream that keeps countless households going.
