HC pulls govt strings over Chinese manjha menace
Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has expressed serious concern on the incidents occurring due to use of Chinese manjha.It has directed the state authorities to make stringent rules to immediately ban manufacture, sale and use of such manjha and warned if the incidents did not spot, it would be compelled to allow compensation to the victims of such incidents in addition to the treatment cost. The bench has fixed March 11 for the next hearing .

A bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice AK Chaudhary passed the order on a PIL filed against Chinese manjha. Yet another bench of Chief Justice Arun Bhansali and Justice Jaspreet Singh expressed serious concern on the issue on Tuesday and clubbed another PIL filed in the same issue with the previous PIL.Reacting to issuance of a govt order on Feb 2026 the bench had earlier said that mere issuing GO was not sufficient and it was necessary for the state machinery to take strict action without waiting any new incident to occur.The bench had reacted, "It appears that only when such injuries/deaths take place due to use of such manjha and these incidents hog the headlines in newspapers, state functionaries wake up and start taking some action."
