Faizabad is polio-free, claims expert

FAIZABAD: "Faizabad district has become polio-free," said Dr Ashok Roy, medical officer, National Polio Surveillance Project (NPSP), while addressing a workshop on `Acute flaccid paralysis surveillance' organised by Faizabad field unit of NPSP at the conference hall of Deva Memorial Hospital here recently.

faizabad: "faizabad district has become polio-free," said dr ashok roy, medical officer, national polio surveillance project (npsp), while addressing a workshop on `acute flaccid paralysis surveillance' organised by faizabad field unit of npsp at the conference hall of deva memorial hospital here recently. he laid stress on the importance of quality surveillance of afp cases for eradication of the polio disease. exhorting the practicing paediatricians, orthopaedicians and physicians to play a positive role in eradication of polio by reporting all cases of afp to npsp, dr roy said that they should also take initiative for breaking the transmission chain of the infection by disseminating proper information about polio vaccination to people. dr nihal singh, regional co-ordinator, npsp, briefed the gathering about progress made and also explained the importance of repeated vaccination by oral polio vaccine through routine immunisation, pulse-polio immunisation and mopping up campaign. the npsp authorities presented a comparative chart of polio cases reported in india in the past four year with reference to the state as well as faizabad district. dr sp dohare, district immunisation officer, said that each and every child below five years would be vaccinated with oral polio vaccine once again in the district in response to the detection of one confirmed polio case in the neighbouring sultanpur district.
