Lucknow: Chief minister
Yogi Adityanath on Monday announced that state govt will introduce a semester-based scholarship system from next year, enabling students to receive financial assistance at the time of fee submission.
To streamline semester-wise disbursal, govt also plans to issue student cards linked to individual courses. Officials said efforts were underway to ensure that students who missed out on benefits in previous years due to banking or technical issues are included. Those deprived this year because of such glitches will be covered in the next financial year, the CM added.
Earlier in the day, as Yogi transferred scholarship funds to students' bank accounts with a single click, the auditorium erupted in applause.
Expressing gratitude, beneficiary Vaibhavkar Pathak, a BTech student, said the scholarship assured continuity in his studies.
Divyanshi, a BSc Nursing student, said the support had made her education easier and was crucial for her family.
A government spokesperson said the programme underscored improvements in the scholarship system. Instead of being released at the end of the academic session, scholarships are now disbursed starting October 2.
The CM also highlighted work done for students from backward and minority communities.
To strengthen infrastructure in minority-dominated regions, the state has established 218 intermediate college buildings, 74 ITI buildings and 18 degree colleges. An Unani Medical College in Bareilly and 20 Common Service Centres have also been set up.
