According to a CBI statement on Feb 11, 2026, the agency registered a case based on a complaint filed by the proprietor of a private firm engaged in supplying rice to FCI depots. The complainant alleged that he visited the FCI Babrala depot to deposit 16 stacks of rice and planned to deposit an additional eight stacks.
During the process, the accused depot in-charge allegedly demanded illegal gratification of ₹50,000 for clearing the initial 16 stacks and further sought ₹15,000 per stack for approving the remaining eight stacks. Acting on the complaint, the CBI verified the allegations and subsequently laid a trap.
During the trap operation, investigators found that the bribe demand was allegedly made by the depot in-charge in conspiracy with the FCI depot manager.
The CBI team caught both accused officials red-handed while they demanded and accepted ₹30,000 as the first instalment of the total bribe amount from the complainant.
CBI officials confirmed that the accused were apprehended during the trap proceedings, and further investigation into the case is under way to ascertain the extent of the alleged corruption and involvement of any additional persons.
The agency is expected to produce the accused before the competent court after completing legal formalities.
