LUCKNOW: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Satish Kumar Sharma, a nominated member of the Meerut Cantonment Board, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from a contractor for the smooth continuation of a tender related to parking, canteen and entry fee collection operations at Gandhi Bagh in Meerut Cantonment.According to a CBI, the agency registered a corruption case against Sharma on May 29, 2026, following allegations that he had sought illegal gratification from the complainant. The complainant was operating a private firm on behalf of his mother, which had been awarded the contract for managing parking facilities, canteen services and entry fee collection at Gandhi Bagh.The agency alleged that Sharma demanded Rs 3 lakh from the contractor in exchange for ensuring the uninterrupted continuation of the tender and related operations.Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on May 29. During the operation, agency officials allegedly caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 3 lakh from the complainant.Following the successful trap operation, the accused was taken into custody. CBI officials said Sharma has been arrested and is being produced before the competent court in Ghaziabad.The agency has not disclosed whether any additional public servants or private individuals are under the scanner in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects of the alleged bribery transaction and any possible wider conspiracy.The CBI said the investigation in the matter is continuing.
