9 of ‘Gujjar Gang’ held for midnight rioting in Gosaiganj
Lucknow: Lucknow police on Sunday arrested nine accused in connection with a late-night vandalism incident reported from the Gosaiganj area on May 19, in which a group allegedly stormed a house and damaged multiple vehicles parked outside following an old dispute.
According to police, around 25-30 men allegedly belonging to the ‘Gujjar Gang” arrived in two pickup vehicles, and a four-wheeler armed with sticks, rods and other objects.
The group allegedly vandalised two high end motorcycles along with a car parked outside the complainant’s residence. When the family objected, the accused allegedly threatened them with dire consequences.
An FIR in the case was registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to rioting, assault, criminal intimidation and damage to property.
ACP, Gosaiganj, Rishabh Yadav, said, “Two teams have been formed to identify and arrest those involved.” Earlier, on May 21, police arrested a named accused, Azad Rawat, and sent him to jail. Acting on informer inputs and local surveillance, police on Sunday arrested nine more accused linked to the case.
Police records show that two of the arrested accused have previous criminal cases registered against them, including charges related to assault and POCSO Act offences.
