Kannur: CPM state secretary M V Govindan on Thursday refused to clarify his party's stand on SDPI's support to LDF in the upcoming assembly elections. Responding to a query from the media persons, Govindan questioned why LDF should declare its stand on rejecting SDPI votes until the UDF turns down Jamaat-e-Islami's support.
Asked if SDPI was a communal outfit, the CPM state secretary replied that many factors should be checked to make a clarification in this regard. However, he added "You agree that Jamaat-e-Islami's vote is communal, but the UDF has not said that they don't need it. If the UDF first rejects Jamaat-e-Islami's votes, LDF would clarify its stance on SDPI support," Govindan said.
He criticised that UDF has not said they don't need support of SDPI or Jamaat-e-Islami. Communist party has a clear stance identifying communal parties and extremist groups and democratic bodies, Govindan said.
