Kolkata: A 32-year-old female corporate employee was allegedly wrongfully restrained, assaulted, and molested by a group of unidentified miscreants in southwest Kolkata’s Thakurpukur area in the early hours of Saturday when she resisted a snatching attempt on her.
Based on the woman’s formal complaint, the Thakurpukur police station has registered a criminal case under Sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 54 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The FIR has been lodged against three to five unknown individuals.
According to cops, the victim, a telecommunications major employee, was returning home from her night shift when the incident occurred. Around 1.54 am, as she turned into the dark lane leading to her residence, the group of miscreants suddenly ambushed her.
The police report stated that the attackers, acting in collusion, wrongfully blocked her path, subjected her to a flurry of fists and blows, and outraged her modesty by pawing at her during the scuffle. Despite the assault, the woman bravely resisted the robbery attempt, broke free from their clutches, and managed to run safely inside her home.
Under the direct orders of the DCP and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Thakurpukur PS, a dedicated team has taken up the investigation. Officers are currently scanning CCTV footage from the locality and questioning local residents to identify the culprits. No arrests have been made so far.
