10 Bangladeshis turn up at holding centre to return home
Jalpaiguri: Ten Bangladeshi nationals turned up voluntarily at a holding centre at Changrabandha in Cooch Behar's Mekhliganj on Saturday, requesting the authorities to deport them to their homeland.Sources said these individuals had entered India illegally almost a decade ago and lived in different states, working as daily wage labourers and domestic helps. All of them had managed to obtain local identity cards, including voter cards."All these people had taken help from agents to cross the border illegally after paying hefty amounts. If they tried to cross back on their own, it would mean paying those agents more money. And with the changed govt, it would have been a difficult task as well. So they decided to show up at the holding centre on their own," an official said.
