Man killed in bar brawl; four arrested

Kottayam: A 40-year-old man was killed after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of men following a brawl at a bar in Ezhupunna in Alappuzha. The incident happened around 11.30pm on Thursday. The deceased was Nidhin Kunjumon, a resident of Kumbalangi in Ernakulam.Aroor police on Friday arrested four people in connection with the murder. The arrested persons are Anil Joseph, 22, Shinu Shaji, 29, Jithumon V R, 27, and Jibin M B, 25. According to police, the deceased had an altercation with one of the gang members in the bar. Later Kunjumon, who was sitting on a bike outside the bar, was attacked by the gang with the intention of killing him. One of the accused slapped him and the rest thrashed and kicked him, police said. The victim soon collapsed on the road. Locals, after noticing him lying unconscious, alerted the police, who took him to a nearby private hospital. However, he succumbed to injuries. Aroor police registered an FIR under Sections 103 (1) (murder) and 3 (5) (common intention) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy. Police said the accused would be produced before a magistrate court.
