Kochi: Ernakulam rural police have launched an investigation after a man was found dead in a well on a private property near Aluva Sub Jail.
Aluva police said prima facie there was no foul play involved, as preliminary findings indicate that the cause of death was drowning. Police, however, are yet to identify the deceased. There are no other visible injuries on the body.
The body was found by a woman who works at the private property after she smelt the rotting corpse. Subsequently, the police were alerted. Aluva police conducted inquest proceedings and moved the body to a hospital for an autopsy.
"The deceased seems to be under 35 years of age. An attempted theft occurred in the vicinity and the man in the CCTV footage resembles the deceased. We are investigating if the deceased is the same person. We are also probing if someone under the influence of alcohol entered the private compound and fell into the well," an officer said.
