Man arrested for murder of Tamil Nadu native

Kochi: Police arrested a 34-year-old Kumbalangi native for the murder of a man whose body was found with multiple stab injuries in a vegetable stall at Illickal market in Kumbalangi on Saturday morning.

The arrested person is Akhil Antony, and the deceased person was a Tamil Nadu native and who used to work at the market as cobbler. Antony was arrested on Sunday.

According to police, the deceased person went by the names ‘Mahin’ and ‘Annan’. Police added that the deceased hailed from Palani and was making a living near the market as a cobbler for around five years.

The accused had a history of substance abuse, and the attack occurred following an argument, the police said. The victim was found dead around 7am by a vegetable vendor from Palluruthy when he arrived to open his shop. Police said the victim sustained stab and slash wounds on his shoulder, face and neck. It was suspected that the death occurred during the early hours of Saturday.

Palluruthy police registered a case under Sections 332(a) and 103(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused was presented in court and remanded in judicial custody.
