College professor killed in accident in Idukki
Idukki: A college professor was killed and his son seriously injured after their scooter collided with a car at Venmani near Vannappuram in Thodupuzha on Monday morning. The deceased has been identified as Bijoy Thomas (53), professor in the chemistry department of Newman College and a resident of Karinkunnam. His son, George Thomas (12), who was travelling with him, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment. The accident occurred around 7.15am at Koodathotty Junction on the Vannappuram–Chelachuvadu road. Thomas and his son were returning from their ancestral home at Thekkumthandu near Murickassery when their scooter collided with a car coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision threw both riders onto the road, while the car crashed into the roadside protection wall. Bus employees who arrived at the spot shortly after the accident carried out the rescue operation and shifted the two to a private hospital in Thodupuzha. However, Thomas's life could not be saved. George suffered severe injuries to his hand, head and lungs, hospital sources said. Thomas is survived by his wife Jino, a teacher at Govt Vocational Higher Secondary School, Pala, and daughter Arna Nesa Thomas.
