Kottayam: The family of Makkan Chellappan, a farmer who was found hanging from an iron pipe in the LDF election committee office set up in front of CPI local committee office at Thalayazham in the district, alleged that his mobile phones were missing. Chellappan had an Android and a keypad phone.
Police said that only a suicide note was found near Chellappan's body. His body was found on Tuesday morning. The wire leading to the bulb that provided light to the election committee office was cut. However, the object used to cut the wire was not found.
The family suspects that someone deliberately removed the phones and other items. They alleged that the phones might contain information shedding light on the cause of his death and those fearing exposure might have removed them.
Chellappan lived in a shed adjacent to an agricultural nursery in Edayazham. Despite police searching the shed in the presence of his relatives, the phones weren't found. Although call details can be obtained from his phone numbers, information related to videos and images on the phone can only be accessed if the phone is recovered.
