Kottayam: NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair said that the organization cannot approve inspections, including a dog squad, as part of security measures for offering floral tributes at Mannam Samadhi.
The NSS leadership took a similar stand in 1996 as well when former PM P V Narasimha Rao visited Changanassery. Mannam Samadhi is maintained and protected like a temple complex, Nair said. He added that there would be no further comments on the matter.

As part of Vice President C P Radhakrishnan's visit, NSS Hindu College grounds were permitted for helicopter landing. Subsequently, the NSS guest house was also allowed. All these areas were included in the security checks and designated as security zones.
Previously, there was a tradition of obtaining prior permission for floral tributes when distinguished guests arrived, which was not done this time, said NSS sources.
