13-year-old boy drowned in Kalpathy River while attempting to save his uncle
Palakkad: A 13-year-old boy drowned in Kalpathy River while attempting to save his uncle who slipped into water while taking bath on Tuesday morning.The deceased has been identified as Adarsh, son of Manoj of Peechiyachan Nagar, Kunnumpuram, Palakkad. He was a Class VIII student of St Thomas School, Railway Colony.The incident occurred around 10am at the bathing ghat near Kundambalam. Adarsh went to the river along with his uncle from Chettitheruvu and a few other children from the locality. On seeing him struggle in water, the boy reportedly jumped in to rescue him. Residents and others present at the spot managed to rescue the uncle, but Adarsh was caught in the current.Fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the spot, launched a search and found the boy. He was rushed to a hospital but doctors could not save his life.Manoj and family, from Chettitheruvu, are living on rent at Peechimman Nagar. Adarsh is also survived by his mother Anu and a younger brother.
