It is the practical knowledge which the students of MBA lack and hence most of them do not suit the needs of the corporate world, he added.
The keynote speaker was Ram Mishra from Montclair State University, New Jersey, US. He said that in the MBA programme in the US, more stress is laid on gaining practical knowledge. "The students in US are taught only eight theory subjects as against 22 subjects taught in most of the Indian universities," Mishra added.
The speakers felt that the students do not wish to pursue MBA from GBTU. "Therefore, to sharpen the MBA programme run by GBTU, it is necessary to bring a drastic change in its syllabus. Prof Ram Mishra and Prof Kripa Shankar will pin-point the changes required to be done. Once the road map for the changed course is ready, it would be inducted in the MBA programme set to begin in the new session (2011-12)," RK Trivedi, director, STEP-HBTI, said.
Trivedi said that the objective of the workshop was to provide a nurturing environment to develop future leaders for the service of the country by helping students to develop the right attitudes, skills and knowledge. He mentioned that the aim of the workshop was to create an interface between industry, business, community and academia to make education responsive to the change and relevant to the need and expectations of industries. He added that it will try to explore gap between industry expectations and quality of recent graduates/postgraduates of professional courses.
HBTI director RK Khitoliya and others were present on the occasion.
