KANPUR: Bike-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain from a retired woman sub-inspector in broad daylight on Thursday afternoon in Awas Vikas Keshavpuram, Rawatpur area, police said.The chain-snatching was captured on a CCTV camera installed outside a neighbour’s house. Police immediately launched a search for the accused, setting up checkpoints in several locations and checking two-wheeler riders late in the evening.

The victim, Manju Lata Dubey, a resident of Awas Vikas Keshavpuram, filed a report stating she is a retired sub-inspector from the CBCID, while her husband serves as a Deputy Jailer in Mirzapur. She said she had gone to offer water for worship at Gayatri Park, located in front of her house, when two youths on a bike approached her. The rider wore a helmet, while the pillion rider covered his face and mouth.According to the report, the pillion rider snatched the gold chain from her neck under the pretext of asking for directions. When she confronted him, he pushed her down and tried to break her bangles before both fled on the bike.
The value of the snatched gold chain is estimated at approximately Rs 1.5 lakh. DCP West and police personnel visited the spot, inspected the site, collected details from the victim, and seized the CCTV footage.ADCP West Kapil Dev Singh said: "Two teams have been deployed to identify and catch the robbers. The Crime Branch is also working on this. The miscreants will be arrested as soon as possible."
