Kanpur: A truck driver and his helper were killed after they stepped out of their vehicle to check tyre pressure and were run over by another truck coming from behind on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Unnao’s Auras police station area early Monday.
According to police, the truck carrying maize had been halted on the roadside when driver Rais, a resident of Bijnor, along with his helper Zainul, got down to inspect the tyres. At the same time, another truck approaching from the Lucknow side allegedly went out of control and crashed into the stationary vehicle from behind.
Circle officer Bangarmau Santosh Singh said the injured were rushed to the Community Health Centre in Auras, where doctors declared them dead.
Preliminary investigation suggested that the driver of the second truck, identified as Rahmat Khan from Rajasthan’s Alwar, may have dozed off, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
