MBBS students hit streets over long power cuts, raise slogans
Kanpur: MBBS students of Kanpur Dehat Medical College protested outside the campus late on Thursday night against prolonged power cuts, alleging they were receiving electricity for only four to five hours a day.Students came out of their hostels around midnight and raised slogans against the administration, claiming that erratic power supply was affecting studies, exam preparation and daily activities amid the intense heat. They said continuous outages had also disrupted mobile charging, internet connectivity and water supply. Police reached the spot after being alerted and pacified the students.Students claimed they had informed the administration several times but no effective steps were taken. They warned of a larger agitation if the issue was not resolved soon.Principal Dr Harmeet Singh said the college had repeatedly written to senior officials and the energy department regarding the problem. He said the college was receiving electricity through a regular feeder line and demanded a dedicated line to ensure uninterrupted supply to the hospital and hostels.
