JAIPUR:
Rajasthan High Court on Wednesday asked the state government why a
CBI probe cannot be ordered into the allegations of dowry harassment and domestic violence against chief secretary Om Prakash Meena by his wife.
The single bench of Justice Mohammad Rafique was hearing a petition by Meena's estranged wife Geeta Singh Deo seeking a fair investigation given that her husband holds a high position in the bureaucratic hierarchy and is capable of influencing the investigation by the police.
The court directed additional advocate-general Brahamand Sandhu to get the government's view in the matter and convey the same to it on October 18.
Geeta Singh Deo had filed a complaint in Mahila Police Station in the city in September last year accusing
Meena of torturing her and ‘misbehaving' with her daughter. According to the FIR, they got married in 1982 and in 1984 their daughter
Geetanjali was born. Since then, as per the FIR, Meena had been torturing her "as he wanted a son".
In the petition, she has alleged that although the police said that they would charge-sheet Meena following up on her complaint, they have been forcing her into a compromise. On a separate petition by her in the high court seeking maintenance, the court has reserved its order. She had sought form of a protest 700 British pounds for her daughter studying in UK.
