Storms to ease in Raj, heatwave likely to return from May 9
Jaipur: Thunderstorms and rainfall activity across Rajasthan are set to weaken over the next few days, with the Met office warning of a gradual return of heatwave conditions from May 9.
According to the meteorological office, Jaipur, the current weather system bringing dust storms, rain and thunderstorms is losing strength and will taper off across most parts of the state. While conditions are expected to stabilise, isolated areas of north-eastern Rajasthan may continue to witness moderate thunderstorms over the next three to four days.
The recent spell has provided significant relief from the scorching summer, bringing down maximum temperatures across much of the state, barring western districts. In Jaipur, residents woke up to pleasant weather, Tuesday, with the minimum temperature recorded at 22.3°C and the maximum at 34.6°C—nearly 5.9°C below normal.
However, western Rajasthan remained hotter. Barmer recorded the highest maximum temperature at 41.7°C, followed by Phalodi at 41.0°C. Other cities reported relatively lower readings, including Jaisalmer (39.8°C), Jodhpur (38.1°C), Bikaner (37.1°C), Kota (36.3°C), Udaipur (36.1°C), Ajmer (35.0°C) and Bhilwara (34.5°C).
The Met office said that as storm activity subsides over the next three to four days, temperatures are likely to rise by 3–5°C across Rajasthan. A fresh spell of heatwave conditions is expected to begin from May 9, particularly in border districts of western Rajasthan.
Between May 8 and May 11, parts of the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions are likely to see maximum temperatures soaring to 45–46°C, signalling the return of intense summer conditions across the region.
