Skill, neuro-otology labs inaugurated at SMS hospital

Jaipur: Health minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar Wednesday inaugurated new modern facilities, including a skill lab and a neuro-otology lab, at the ENT department of Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College.

Khimsar said such developmental initiatives are highly beneficial not only for improving patient care but also for enhancing the education of undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) medical students. He said the expansion of advanced medical infrastructure is a crucial step towards providing better healthcare services to the people of Rajasthan.

Dr Pawan Singhal, head of the ENT department, said major improvements were made in patient care, UG and PG teaching, faculty development and research. “One of the most significant achievements is the establishment of a state-of-the-art cochlear implant operation theatre, which will facilitate complex ear surgeries and hearing restoration procedures,” he said.

Elaborating on the new facilities, Dr Singhal said an 800 sq ft surgical skills lab with 10 stations has been developed to provide hands-on training to resident doctors. He said a comprehensive neuro-otology lab has been set up for the diagnosis and treatment of vertigo and related disorders.

He added that the OPD and OT blocks have been renovated, and several advanced instruments, including a complete sialendoscopy set, have been introduced.

Audiology services have been strengthened with new rooms, modern machines and the appointment of five audiologists. An eight-room audiology wing has been developed, significantly expanding the department’s diagnostic and treatment capacity.
