Around midnight, both sisters went to their room to sleep. Their health deteriorated suddenly around 4am, and family members rushed them to a private hospital in Jodhpur, where they were declared dead.
The family brought the bodies back home and began preparing for the last rites without a postmortem.
On receiving this information, police reached the spot around 6am, stopped the cremation, and sent the bodies to MGH mortuary for autopsy. The remains were later handed over to the family.
A preliminary investigation suggested that the duo may have ingested a poisonous substance. Police were awaiting the postmortem report to nail the exact cause of death. No suicide note had been recovered till late on Saturday.
