Jhalana Bypass may get three-tier transit system
Jaipur: Jhalana Bypass Road may be developed into a three-tier transportation corridor, on the lines of Ajmer Road, with an elevated road and a metro corridor proposed to run along the same stretch. At a review meeting on Friday, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma directed the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) to closely coordinate with the Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation (JMRC) on integrating the two projects. Officials said Jaipur's Comprehensive Mobility Plan proposes a metro corridor connecting Transport Nagar to Jagatpura via Jhalana Bypass. It also includes a spur line from Jagatpura RoB to Khatipura railway station. Separately, the state budget has announced an elevated road between Aranya Bhawan and Balaji Tiraha in Malviya Nagar. "We are now working on the feasibility of these two projects operating together. If it's feasible, the Jhalana Bypass Road will have both metro corridor and an elevated road," said Vaibhav Galriya, managing director of JMRC. During the meeting, Sharma stressed timely execution of metro projects and asked JMRC to prioritise an action plan to link future expansion phases with the existing network, especially in densely populated areas.
"Phase 1 of the Jaipur Metro is operational and construction for extension corridors is in progress. We will soon start constructing Phase 2. Now we want to extend metros to other areas of Jaipur focusing on Agra Road, Old Delhi Road and Ajmer Road," Galriya said. Officials added that future extensions may go beyond Jagatpura to Amer, Bagrana on Agra Road, and the newly built ISBT at Hirapura on Ajmer Road, expanding the city's mass transit reach.
