Gangster Godara’s brother, Delana’s dad held as cops widen crackdown on syndicate
Jaipur: A day after police arrested the parents of gangsters Rohit Godara and Virendra Charan in Churu, fresh action Friday saw the arrest of Godara’s brother in Sriganganagar and the father of gangster Mahendra Delana, a close aide of the Godara-Charan syndicate, in Hanumangarh.
The latest arrests are being seen as part of an intensified crackdown on the support network of Rajasthan-based gangsters who are suspected to be operating from abroad. Investigators believe the action has put the syndicate under unprecedented pressure as police shift focus to relatives and associates allegedly involved in facilitating their operations.
Sriganganagar SP Hari Shankar said police arrested Hanuman Swami, Godara’s brother, for allegedly delivering a pistol and handling cash on behalf of the gangster. Investigators suspect he played a role in providing logistical and financial support to the syndicate.
The arrests come a day after Churu police, probing the firing at the residence of Ratangarh councillor Rajkumar Baberwal, arrested Godara’s father Santdas, 70, mother Geeta Devi, 68, and Virendra Charan’s father Narendra Singh Charan, 73.
Police said a hired shooter from Punjab opened fire at Baberwal’s residence on May 14, triggering panic among local residents. Investigators alleged that the attack was carried out by aides of Godara and Charan as part of an extortion bid targeting the councillor.
In another development, police arrested Chandan Mal, father of Delana who is suspected to have fled the country. Investigators alleged that Mal was part of the same extortion syndicate and handled money on behalf of the gang.
Sources said the arrests are part of a broader strategy aimed at dismantling the financial and logistical networks that allow fugitive gangsters to continue operating from overseas. Investigators are examining money trails and communication links, and further action is expected in the coming days.
