BJP MLA, aides booked under SC/ST Act over alleged assault on Sriganganagar engineer
Jaipur: An FIR was registered against BJP MLA Jaideep Bihani and several others at Jawahar Nagar police station Wednesday under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act over the alleged assault and wrongful confinement of a Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project (RUIDP) assistant engineer.
According to the FIR lodged by assistant engineer Jaganlal Bairwa, the incident took place on April 30 at the MLA Seva Kendra in Sriganganagar. Bairwa alleged that he was called to the centre by PHED AEN Krishan Dhariwal after being told that the MLA wanted to meet him regarding ongoing RUIDP works in the city.
The complainant alleged that after he reached the office along with two representatives of the L&T project team, he was assaulted by the MLA and supporters. He alleged that caste-based slurs were used against him and that he was beaten with fists, sticks and pipes. He further claimed that he suffered an eye injury during the assault.
The FIR also alleged that the complainant and the two accompanying officials were confined inside the office, threatened with weapons and pressured over the ongoing Rs 555 crore city project. The complainant further alleged that govt documents were snatched and destroyed during the incident.
Named in the FIR are MLA Jaideep Bihani, PHED AEN Krishan Dhariwal, Manish Garg, Krishan Gopal, Banty Balmiki, Jagdish Ghodela, Dharmender Sihag, Sunil Nayak and Sandeep Sherewala, along with 15 to 20 unidentified persons.
Police registered the case on May 6 under sections related to assault, wrongful confinement, obstruction in public duty and criminal intimidation under the BNS, along with provisions of the SC/ST Act.
The FIR states that the complainant initially approached the police through the superintendent of police office on May 1, but further proceedings were delayed as he went to Jaipur for treatment and medical examination. A senior official said, “The investigation has been handed over to Deputy Superintendent of Police Vishnu Kumar Khatri of the SC/ST investigation cell, Sriganganagar.”
