Another fatality post C-section in Kota

Kota: A 22-year-old woman died after undergoing a C-section at the govt-run J K Lon Hospital in Kota late Saturday night, while two other women who developed kidney-related complications following the same procedure were shifted to the New Medical College Hospital (NMCH), officials said Sunday.Two women had died earlier this week at NMCH – also a govt hospital – of suspected infections following caesarean operations, while four others who underwent the same procedure were left in critical condition. J K Lon Hospital authorities, however, attributed the latest death to cardiac complications and not to post-surgical infection.The deceased was identified as Priya Mahawar, a resident of Bundi district. Doctors said her newborn baby is healthy.J K Lon Hospital superintendent Dr Nirmala Sharma said Priya was brought to the hospital in critical condition after initial treatment elsewhere for labour pain. Doctors performed a caesarean section to save the baby, after which Priya reportedly developed severe cardiac complications."She suddenly developed a kind of heart arrhythmia, which sharply increased her heart rate. Despite all efforts by the medical team, she could not be saved," Dr Sharma said.Doctors said the two other women who developed kidney-related complications after caesarean sections at the hospital were admitted to the nephrology ward at NMCH, where their condition appeared stable Sunday morning. By evening, however, their conditions turned for the worse and both were placed on life-support systems. They are currently being treated under the supervision of a team of specialist doctors from Jaipur and Kota.Dr Sharma said the recent pattern of post-caesarean complications seen in Kota govt hospitals called for a detailed medical investigation to ascertain their exact cause. She referred to a similar incident reported from a hospital in Udaipur earlier this year, adding that such cases needed deeper study to prevent their recurrence.
