Sirpur, Limbodi ponds to store more water in monsoon
Indore: Ahead of monsoon, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has intensified digging and strengthening of Sirpur and Limbodi ponds. The initiative, aligned with state-level water preservation directives, focuses on restoring local water bodies, stepwells, and reservoirs ahead of the monsoon season.
During an inspection, district collector Shivam Verma and IMC commissioner Kshitij Singhal evaluated the current water storage capacities, catchment areas, and inflow channels of the reservoirs. Verma directed the municipal officials to clear all blockages, structural obstructions, and encroachments hindering the natural flow of rainwater within the catchment zones on a priority basis.
Singhal said that desiltation and channel-clearing operations have already been completed across five major water networks --- Kelod Kartal channel, Morod Machla channel, Nipania lake channel, Bhawrasla pond channel and Revati Range channel.
He said that restoration work was currently underway on five additional channels --- Rao Bilawali network, Limbodi lake inlet near Oyster, and Sirpur lake channel.
A 900-year-old stepwell (baoli) in Tillor Khurd panchayat which was restored through community participation was also unveiled. Built in Vikram Samvat 1184, the historical structure was desilted and revived to act as functional groundwater recharge infrastructure and preserve local heritage.
