Nine arrested with betting material worth lakhs

Indore: A betting racket was busted and nine people were arrested with betting material worth several lakhs of rupees in Aerodrome area late on Friday.Acting on a tip-off, a team from Aerodrome police station reached Suvidhi Nagar, where Ashish was caught accepting bets.During questioning, Ashish told police he was working at the behest of Mahesh, a resident of Super Corridor area. Based on this input, the team raided a house in Singapore City, where seven men were found operating the betting through mobile phones. All were taken into custody on the spot. Another accused, Shivram, was later arrested from Banganga area after his name surfaced during interrogation.Police seized 12 mobile phones, seven calculators, Rs 16,200, and betting slips indicating transactions worth several lakh rupees. A case has been registered against all the accused under the Gambling Act and for petty organised crimes and abetment under the BNS.Police said investigation was underway to identify the network behind the operation and trace others involved in running the betting racket.
