Metro hits 80 km/h during final CMRS safety trials

Indore: The Metro train completed high-speed trials, reaching 80 km/h, on the stretch between Super Corridor and Radisson Square on Tuesday.The ‘Speed Brake Test', conducted four times under the supervision of Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), marked the conclusion of a rigorous three-day inspection.With the physical audit now complete, the city is on the verge of receiving formal No Objection Certificate, potentially paving way for commencement of commercial operations on the extended route.After conducting static station audits throughout the day on Tuesday, the CMRS team initiated high-speed runs in the evening. The train was pushed to its maximum operational limit of 80 km/h and then subjected to emergency braking tests to verify safety parameters on the elevated viaduct.Residents near MR-10 and Vijay Nagar gathered in large numbers to witness the brightly lit metro coaches gliding across the skyline late in the evening.Earlier in the day, CMRS Nilabhra Sengupta and his six-member team spent an hour at each of the new stations, ---Meghdoot, Vijay Nagar, and Radisson Square. The audit focused on exit gates, lifts, escalators, and parking zones, as well as passenger logistics, specialised facilities and ramps for differently-abled passengers, control command centre, signalling centre, and the stabling yard at the metro depot. The team also inspected the dedicated electric sub-station at MR-10."The management will address any minor suggestions provided in the report immediately", a metro official stated. Once the final NOC is issued, the operational route will expand from the current 6 km (Gandhi Nagar to Super Corridor) to a total of 17.5 km, connecting the airport area directly to the bustling Radisson Square.
