Indore: Crime branch of Indore police on Friday arrested a man with 12.87 gram MD drugs worth Rs 1.3 lakh during a targeted check near Gulmarg Complex, Sapna Sangeeta.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Azeem, a resident of Sadar Bazaar, was intercepted after he tried to evade police during routine surveillance in the area. Acting on suspicion, the team stopped Azeem, who was found sitting on a two-wheeler at a relatively isolated spot. During questioning, his responses were inconsistent, prompting a detailed search. Police recovered 12.87 gram MD concealed inside the storage compartment of his vehicle. The seized narcotic is estimated to have an international market value of around Rs 1.3 lakh.
Along with the drugs, the crime branch also seized a mobile phone and the two-wheeler used in the offence, taking the total value of the recovered items to Rs 2,50,000.
Azeem, who works as a graphic designer and is educated up to Class 12, was taken into custody.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted that he procured the contraband at lower rates and supplied it to drug users in Indore at higher prices to earn illegal profits. Based on the seizure, police registered a case against him under the NDPS Act at Crime Branch police station.
Officials said further investigation is underway to trace the source of supply and identify other links in the drug distribution network.
