Humidity adds to discomfort despite dip in day temp on fifth day of Nautapa

Indore: Even as the day temperature dipped on the fifth day of Nautapa, Indoreans found little relief from the weather, with intense humidity and sharp sunshine making conditions uncomfortable throughout Friday.The city recorded a maximum temperature of 39.4 degrees Celsius, but the sticky atmosphere made it feel several degrees hotter during the afternoon hours. Friday morning began with clear skies and bright sunshine. As the day progressed, warm winds and moisture in the atmosphere made outdoor conditions difficult.Met officials said the maximum temperature remained nearly one degree below normal for this time of the season. However, the combined effect of strong sunlight and rising moisture levels in the air pushed the heat index close to 42-43 degrees Celsius in several parts of the city. Residents experienced humid conditions from early morning, with many complaining of discomfort despite comparatively lower day temperature.This year, Nautapa has remained milder compared to previous years in terms of extreme heat, but the persistent humidity has prevented any significant relief. On Thursday, the city had recorded a maximum temperature of 41.8 degrees Celsius, while the night temperature settled at 26.9 degrees Celsius, nearly one degree above normal. Night temperature stayed above 26 degrees Celsius for the last three days, leading to warm and uneasy nights across the city.The Met centre stated that south-westerly winds remained active over the region, with wind speeds reaching up to 25 kilometres per hour. The minimum temperature on Friday was recorded at 26.4 degrees Celsius, which was above normal.Met officials have predicted a change in weather conditions beginning Friday night. From Saturday onwards, cloud cover and light rain activity are expected in Indore. Weather experts have also forecast thunderstorms, gusty winds and intermittent light rain from Sunday for nearly four days as pre-monsoon activity strengthens across the region.The expected rainfall and cloudy conditions are likely to bring down day temperature below 36 degrees Celsius next week, offering residents much-needed relief from the prolonged spell of heat and humidity.
