Food dept teams get cracking on dairy outlets in city
Indore: In wake of tragic child fatalities in Andhra Pradesh linked to adulterated and toxic milk, the food and drug administration (FDA) on Monday launched coordinated raids on dairy outlets and food establishments in Indore and Neemuch to ensure public safety.Food department teams in Indore targeted various dairies. The teams inspected hygiene standards, storage facilities, and licensing documentation. Multiple samples were taken and dispatched to the state laboratory. The officials warned that once the reports are finalised, any operator found guilty of adulteration or substandard will face strict legal consequences under the Food Safety and Standards Act.Collector Shivam Verma said, "There will be zero compromise on consumer health. We are conducting rigorous inspections of dairy units to ensure that only pure and safe products reach the citizens," he said.Parallel to the Indore action, the FDA team in Neemuch carried out surprise inspections in Jeeran and Chitakheda areas. A total of 11 samples were collected from three major firms.In Neemuch, food safety officers Raju Solanki and Yashwant Kumar Sharma issued improvement notices to Krishna Kanhaiya Dairy and Shambhavi Foods.
The collected samples were sent to the state food testing laboratory. The officials confirmed that further legal proceedings would be initiated based on the laboratory's findings.Neemuch collector Himanshu Chandra said that the campaign was meant to prevent a similar outbreak by enforcing stringent quality controls during the ongoing summer season, when milk spoilage and adulteration risks are traditionally higher.
