5 held for cryptocurrency fraud, money & phones recovered

Indore: Dewas police arrested five people for a cryptocurrency fraud of Rs 1.04 lakh and recovered the money along with six mobile phones, bringing the total seized evidence to Rs 2.33 lakh.Chetansingh Solanki, 45, a resident of Ismail Khedi village in Sehore district, currently living in Anand Vihar Colony, Dewas, filed a complaint on December 6, claiming that between November 2 and November 5, unknown persons contacted him through WhatsApp and promised large profits in cryptocurrency. The accused defrauded him of Rs 1.04 lakh in instalments.Station in-charge Industrial Area Inspector Shashikant Chaurasiya formed a special team which analysed technical evidence and followed the digital trail, reaching the accused within 13 days. Police froze the bank accounts where the money was transferred based on technical data.During interrogation, the accused confessed that they hid their identity and lured the complainant with promises of profits by investing in cryptocurrency. The accused were presented before the court, which granted police remand.The arrested accused are Bablu Makwana alias Ajay, 30, from Dhablaveni village, currently residing in Tirupati Platinum Colony, Nanakheda, Ujjain; Lakhan Panwar, 32, from Malikhedi village, currently at Premnagar, Maksi Road, Ujjain; Rahul Tomar, 30, from Peerjhalar village, currently at Vivekanand Colony, Ujjain; Areeb Ali Khan alias Ali, 22, and Alwaheed Khan alias Rumi, 27, both residents of Parwana Nagar, Ujjain.Police seized Rs 1.04 lakh in defrauded money and six Android mobile phones worth approximately Rs 1.29 lakh from the accused.
