20-km Indore–Pithampur Economic Corridor planned as mixed-use hub with 40 MLD demand

Indore: The proposed 20-km Indore–Pithampur Economic Corridor (IPEC), linking the Super Corridor near the airport to the Pithampur Investment Region on the western outskirts of Indore, is being planned as a mixed-use urban and industrial stretch with an estimated water demand of about 40 MLD.The project is aimed at serving as a key traffic management link ahead of Simhastha 2028, while improving connectivity to major nodes such as Indore airport, ICD Dhannad and the proposed Tihi railway station.Chief minister Mohan Yadav will perform the bhoomipujan of the first phase of the Indore–Pithampur Economic Corridor (IPEC) in the first week of May, officials said."The corridor is being designed as a fully integrated economic zone with robust infrastructure planning, including water provisioning of around 40 MLD through a combination of fresh and recycled sources. It will significantly enhance connectivity between Indore and Pithampur while supporting future urban and industrial growth," Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation Indore executive director Himanshu Prajapati said.According to planning details, the corridor will have a mix of commercial, residential and industrial land use. About 365 hectares are proposed for commercial activity, 206 hectares for mixed-use development, 63 hectares for residential use and around 36 hectares for green industries, along with space for public utilities and infrastructure.The approved scheme covers a gross area of approximately 1,316 hectares, with a total project cost estimated at around Rs 2,360 crore. It is also planned to accommodate a population of about 1.15 lakh, including affordable and rental housing options.The corridor will connect NH-47 (Dhar Road) and NH-52 (Agra–Mumbai Road), providing a direct alternative route between Indore and Pithampur and easing pressure on city roads.
