Barwani: A 12-year-old boy was killed, and 22 persons were injured when a pickup vehicle carrying labourers overturned in Barwani district on Tuesday.
The accident occurred near Salikala on Agra-Mumbai National Highway under Nagalwadi police station limits, Sendhwa SDOP Ajay Waghmare said.
He said that the vehicle was being driven at high speed and in a negligent manner when its shaft broke, causing it to overturn. With the help of passers-by, local villagers and police, the injured were taken to govt Civil Hospital in Sendhwa, about 7 km from the accident site. Doctors declared a 12-year-old boy, identified as Sitesh, a resident of Jamli, dead on arrival. Twenty-two were injured, of whom four sustained serious head injuries and were referred to a hospital in Indore, he said.
Police registered a case and arrested the driver of the vehicle. The labourers were going to Rajpur area from Jamli village for work in a field.
