Hyderabad: In view of the
Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in some parts of the world, as a precautionary measure, the International Arrivals section of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on Tuesday has installed thermal screening systems.
The Airport Health Organization (APHO) has started screening all international passengers arriving at the airport to ensure early detection of any possible symptoms and strengthen public health surveillance.
Thermal scanners placed at the arrival points at the airport are to monitor passengers for symptoms such as high fever, one of the primary indicators associated with Ebola infection. It’s mandatory for all incoming international travellers to undergo thermal checks as a preventive health protocol.
The development comes amid growing global caution over Ebola outbreaks, which have prompted several countries to step up screening and monitoring systems at airports and border entry points.
EVD is often a fatal illness that spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected persons or contaminated materials. Health authorities worldwide generally advise early detection, isolation and monitoring to contain outbreaks effectively.
Monitoring and surveillance measures may be strengthened depending on advisories issued by central health authorities and international health agencies.
