Telangana DCA raids medical shop for selling habit-forming drugs without prescription
Hyderabad: Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, officials have raided a medical shop at Ramanthapur for allegedly selling habit-forming medicines without prescription and seized 120 bottles of a cough syrup.
Acting on specific intelligence, the DCA officials raided SVR Medicals at Sri Nagar Colony, Ramanthapur, on Saturday and seized stocks of codeine-containing Tossex cough syrup and tramadol-containing Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus capsules.
According to officials, medical shop owners V Raju and V Savitha were allegedly selling these medicines without prescriptions from registered medical practitioners. The inspection also revealed several violations of the Drugs Rules, including failure to maintain mandatory records, failure to produce sales bills, and non-maintenance of the Schedule H1 drug register.

“Abuse of codeine and tramadol can lead to addiction, respiratory depression, seizures, coma, and even death. Illegal sale of habit-forming drugs is a serious offence punishable with imprisonment of up to two years under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act,” an official stated.
