SI arrested for sexually exploiting colleague in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A sub-inspector was arrested on Wednesday by the Kukatpally police for allegedly sexually exploiting and cheating a junior. The accused policeman was already under suspension after an internal inquiry.

The accused SI, Suresh Kumar of the 2018 batch, was last posted at the Kollur police station, and while working there, he lured a lower-rank cop working at another police station in the city into a relationship by promising to marry her. “The SI initially concealed the fact that he was already married. Later, when the victim found out that he was married and confronted him, the SI lied to her, saying he would divorce his wife and marry her,” a Cyberabad police officer said.

The accused sexually exploited the woman several times by assuring to marry her, but he recently started avoiding her.

Alarmed by his sudden change of behaviour, the woman confronted him, and the accused refused to marry her. Upset with his behaviour, she lodged a complaint with the Kukatpally police in April. Based on her complaint, police registered a case under Section 69 (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means etc.) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

After the complaint was lodged by the victim, an internal inquiry was ordered, and the SI was placed under suspension. On Wednesday, Kukatpally police arrested SI Suresh Kumar. “He will be produced before court for judicial remand,” Balanagar ACP P Naresh Reddy said.
