Hyderabad horror: Dog branded ‘rabid’, tortured for days and burnt alive; case registered

HYDERABAD: Dundigal police registered a criminal case against a group of individuals who allegedly tortured a dog and later set it ablaze near KVR Valley. The dog was allegedly tortured for two consecutive days and was killed on Saturday night. Based on a complaint lodged by Peddineni Sai Teja, chief executive officer of a private defence company, the police registered a case on the charge of violation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

On Friday, an abandoned dog that was being cared for by a street vendor was attacked with sticks by a group of people. The dog was branded as being affected by rabies. On Saturday evening, the same group allegedly gathered again and attacked the already injured canine.


"The group was determined to harm the dog. After I came to know about the incident through my sources, I reached the spot and tried to convince them not to kill it. I took the responsibility for trapping the dog so that it could be protected from danger," Sai Teja said.

One of the individuals in the group aimed the dog, which was hiding underneath a DCM vehicle, forcing it to come out. While trying to escape, the dog bit the person before slipping away. Later, the accused caught the dog in a net and took it away. "I was trying to trace the people who left the place in a vehicle with the dog. Sometime later, I received information that the dog had been killed by setting it ablaze. Immediately, I went to the spot and found the dog dead," he said.
