Couple steals gold chain from housewife, arrested in 24 hrs

Hyderabad: Malkajgiri police solved a daylight robbery case within 24 hours and arrested a couple on Thursday while recovering a stolen gold chain from their possession.On Wednesday around 5pm, 65-year-old housewife M Lakshmikantam was alone at her house in Hanumanpet, Malkajgiri, when a couple holding a baby girl knocked on her door. When Lakshmikantam declined their request for work, the woman requested water for the child. When Lakshmikantam turned to fetch water, the man followed her and yanked a gold chain weighing two tola from her neck. The couple fled from the spot.After Lakshmikantam's daughter lodged a complaint, Malkajgiri police verified CCTV footage in the neighbourhood and tracked the accused to Ram Nagar on Thursday afternoon. The accused have been identified as Rapido driver N Kiran, 29, and his wife Pavani, 32, a labourer. During interrogation the couple admitted to the offence, citing financial hardships. Police also seized the scooter of the accused. The couple was produced before court and remanded to judicial custody.
