Two officials in Kalaburagi get 4-yr jail in bribery case
Kalaburagi: A district court in Kalaburagi sentenced two officials to four years of jail term, and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 each in connection with a Rs one lakh bribery case linked to a contract job appointment at MSIL.The convicted officials were identified as B Krishnamurthy, the then branch manager at district MSIL office, and Chandrashekhar Salake, who served as DLO.According to the prosecution, the accused demanded Rs one lakh from Siddalinga Gundagonda for a contract job at Shahabad MSIL. Krishnamurthy allegedly accepted Rs 50,000 as part payment and passed it on to Salake.Following a complaint, DSP Sudha Adi registered conducted the investigation, and inspector Mohammed Ismail later filed the charge sheet in court. After hearing the case, Principal District and Special Judge GL Lakshminarayana held that the charges against both officials were proved. The court convicted them under Section 7(b) of prevention of corruption act.Special public prosecutor Ashok S Chandakavate represented the state during the trial.
