Belagavi: Women's groups across Belagavi marked Women's Day with meaningful activities on Sunday. Shakti Sanghatana celebrated the day by cleaning the Sadashivanagar graveyard as a civic gesture. The women's wing of Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO) observed the occasion by organising awareness programmes on cancer and thalassaemia. Their ‘Drive with Purpose' national awareness rally in Belagavi was flagged off by the DCP of Police Narayan Barmani from the CPED ground. More than 70 cars took part in the rally, which covered major roads in Belagavi and ended at the Gomatesh Vidyapeeth ground. Dr Abhinandan Hanji explained the prevention of cancer and thalassaemia.The members of of Shakti Samarthya Foundation, Belagavi, cleaned the Ganachari crematorium in Sadashivnagar. They also promoted the importance of cleanliness in the crematorium. The locals expressed their appreciation for their selfless service. Basaveshwar Mahila Mandal of Vadagavi organised a programme of singing Vachanas and various cultural programmes to mark the day.
