Aizawl: Mizoram CM Lalduhoma chaired a meeting of the governing body of the lone Zoram Medical College & Hospital (ZMC & H) on Friday at the CM Conference Hall.The meeting was attended by Vanlalthlana, minister for higher & technical education, Lalrinpuii, minister for health & family welfare, and Baryl Vanneihsangi, MLA, along with other governing body members.Members discussed improving the department of physical medicine & rehabilitation, noting that only one doctor is currently available and is handling both clinical and faculty responsibilities. The governing body stressed the need for immediate strengthening of the department.The governing body also reviewed construction of the critical care block being built through CSR funding, and noted that necessary equipment for the block is expected to be procured shortly. Members discussed steps to ensure effective utilization of the facility once it becomes operational.Proposals aimed at strengthening and upgrading ZMC & H that have already been submitted into MPLAN were reviewed, and the governing body prepared a priority list for implementation, citing that it would not be feasible to undertake all projects simultaneously.Over the past two years, ZMC & H has added 30 new cabins and 13 new ICU units, and repaired a large number of previously non-functional hospital beds. With a total capacity of 517 beds, ZMC & H has now become the largest hospital in Mizoram.The meeting noted that in Oct 2024, 10 new postgraduate seats were introduced and nine students are currently pursuing their studies. It also noted that the third batch of MBBS students recently completed their course.
