MCG pushes 108 road projects ahead of monsoon, work underway on 245km of roads
Gurgaon: A total of 108 road development and repair projects covering around 245.5 km are currently underway in the city as the civic body advances infrastructure upgrades and dust-control measures.
These include 33 model road projects spanning 60.87 km, 75 other road works covering 171.2 km, and 33 projects covering 61.7 km linked to Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) directives aimed at controlling dust pollution.
Progress was reviewed in the second meeting of the road development cell, chaired by MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya.
Over 37 road projects located in waterlogging-prone areas were reviewed. Officials were directed to ensure repairs to drainage systems in sensitive locations, along with improving road height and slopes, before the onset of the monsoon.
Dahiya directed officials to ensure strict quality control and regular monitoring of all road projects. “Site inspections must be conducted, GIS-based planning and standard operating procedures should be adopted. The performance of contractors would be closely reviewed, and action would be taken in cases of negligence,” he said.
Officials said special emphasis is being placed on paving unpaved roads and increasing greenery along road corridors to reduce dust levels. The civic body has set a target of paving 68.7 km of unpaved roads under CAQM guidelines. Moreover, 2.5 km of central verge will be developed, and plantation work will be carried out along 1 km of roads. Using GIS technology, the officials have also identified around 11.1 kilometres of central verge where green belts will be developed.
The civic body also plans to develop about 124.4 km of model roads equipped with LED lighting, underground utilities, footpaths, ramps, safe pedestrian crossings, stormwater drainage, and roadside greenery. Officials said around 70% of these projects are at the initial stage, while construction has begun on about 20.6 km.
