Gurgaon: Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday gave MCG officials a week’s time to fix the city’s sanitation system. The CM will review the sanitation arrangements after seven days.
Saini issued these directions while listening to grievances at the grievance redress committee meeting held in the city on Thursday. The CM returned as the panel’s chair after two years.
Former CM Manohar Lal Khattar chaired its meetings till Sept 2022, when he chose to focus on Faridabad and a minister was given charge of the panel.
Saini’s move has been welcomed as the city grapples with civic problems that prompted the state govt to declare a solid waste exigency earlier this month.
Out of the 20 complaints on the agenda of the meeting, which was held at the Freedom Fighter District Council Hall in Civil Lines, he resolved 19 on the spot and directed action on one of them by the next meeting. The CM instructed officials to ensure that there are no shortcomings in the city’s cleanliness. “MCG officials have been given a week's time to fix sanitation problems. I will personally inspect the city's cleanliness arrangements next week,” Saini said.
He also directed the takeover of maintenance services of Mayfield Garden by MCG within a week. If the builder fails to deposit the amount required for upgrading deficient infrastructure in the private colony, its properties will be attached. Eight private colonies were taken over by MCG three years ago, but Mayfield Garden was left out as the developer had not paid the pending infrastructure development charges.
In response to complaints of illegal encroachments on vacant plots in the Housing Board Colony in Dhankot village, the CM directed the formation of an investigation committee headed by the deputy commissioner and ordered that the matter be deferred until the next meeting.
Taking note of a complaint on illegal encroachment of a pond in Nurpur Jharsa village, the CM ordered disciplinary action against the GMDA patwari concerned for incorrect land measurement. Saini also directed that water shortage in DLF City-1 be resolved within two months and instructed the developer to strengthen its water storage and supply system in the area.
Several complainants were absent from the meeting. When the CM asked the officials about these cases, he was informed that the issues had been resolved. Saini then personally called up the complainants to verify their grievances. Residents like Bhagmal Yadav from Kanhai village and Hoshiyar Singh from Prem Nagar Kasan received calls from the CM inquiring whether their complaints were satisfactorily resolved, officials said.
As the meeting started, a group of residents from Old Gurgaon protested in front of the venue and demanded a face-to-face meeting with the CM. The protestors raised issues of cleanliness, water shortage and other civic concerns. After the meeting, the CM met the protesters and assumed that their complaints will be looked into.
