Boundary wall demolition bid at Gurgaon condo sparks security fears

Gurgaon: The attempt to demolish a portion of the boundary wall of Ireo Skyon in Sector 60, allegedly by the developer’s officials, has raised safety concerns among residents.

Residents alleged that the demolition activity was carried out on May 1 from outside the society’s premises without prior notice or approval. They opposed the move and halted it.

The RWA has termed the move unilateral and unauthorised, stating that the periphery wall is an integral part of the approved layout plan and a key component of the society’s security infrastructure.

“The portion of the wall was being demolished without any information or consent. Residents immediately intervened and halted the work. Despite repeated requests, the developer has not shared any approval documents or justification for such demolition,” said the president of the RWA, Jit Singh Azad.

Residents also flagged a major safety concern, pointing out that a fire hydrant line runs along the wall. This, they say, puts residents’ safety at risk in case of emergencies. “Any disturbance to the wall can damage the fire hydrant system,” Azad added.

The developer could not be reached for comment. Devesh Dwivedi, who was the project manager, said he is no longer associated with the project.

Following the incident, residents lodged a police complaint and have written to department of town and country planning (DTCP) seeking immediate intervention. They have also submitted a protest letter to the developer.

In their complaint to DTCP, residents have urged authorities to investigate the alleged unauthorised demolition, direct the developer to cease any such activity without approvals, and restore the periphery wall as per the sanctioned layout plan. They have also sought verification of any permissions granted and action against the developer if violations are found.

District town planner (planning) Praveen Chauhan acknowledged the complaint. “We will examine the matter, and needful will be done accordingly,” he said.

The incident comes at a time when several fire incidents have been reported across Delhi-NCR, including recent cases in Delhi and neighbouring Ghaziabad, underscoring the importance of functional fire safety systems in residential complexes.
