Six rescued from drowning over weekend
Panaji: A seven-year-old boy was among six people rescued from drowning in Goa over the weekend. Drishti Marine also reported that three beachgoers were stung by marine life.
At Dudhsagar waterfalls, lifeguards rescued a seven-year-old boy and his 28-year-old mother from Bengaluru. The child fell into the water in a rocky area without wearing a life jacket, and his mother also entered the water without a life jacket to save him. Both began struggling in the water, and lifesaver Devendra Naik entered the water with a rescue tube and safely brought them back.
At Hollant beach, a Bengaluru man, 33, swimming in the water came in contact with a stingray, that may have stung him on his right foot. Lifesavers rescued him from the water, administered first aid and sent him for further medical assistance. Two men from Kerala, aged 25 and 26, also sustained jellyfish stings while swimming at the same beach and were given first aid.
Lifesavers also rescued a 28-year-old man from Pune after his kayak overturned near the shore at Palolem beach. Unable to get back onto the kayak, the man called for help. Lifesaver Satyan Khobrekar responded using a jet ski and safely brought him back to shore.
Lifesavers also assisted in locating a missing 47-year-old man from Uttarakhand, whose whereabouts were traced near a bridge in Canacona. Lifesaver Sarvesh Chopdekar was alerted and dispatched to the area, where the individual was found sleeping under the bridge. The man was then escorted to Canacona police station. He was later handed over to his family for further medical treatment.
Lifesavers also helped trace three minors who were separated from their parents while playing on the beach.
